Saona Island

Saona is a beautiful tropical island located in the southeast of the Dominican Republic. It is part of the Eastern National Park. This amazing wilderness is the perfect place to relax away from the bustle of the streets, the hustle and bustle of the city, and the crowds of tourists. It was once made famous by the famous Bounty candy commercials. You will find here fabulous landscapes, soft white sand, clear azure sea, palm groves and an atmosphere of absolute tranquility. A large part of the island is uninhabited. On its territory there are no hotels and developed tourist infrastructure, but you can find a cozy bungalow by the coast. Many people prefer to visit Saona as part of a guided tour. Diving and snorkeling are very popular here, and there is an opportunity to get acquainted with the unique representatives of exotic flora and fauna.
This beautiful island, covered with soft sand and thickets of tropical plants, discovered by Christopher Columbus himself. No memory of himself, however, the great explorer did not leave there, but to make the island one of the best attractions of the Dominican Republic, has taken care of nature itself.

The island is covered with thickets of coconut palms and mangroves, colorful orchids and plantations of sugar cane, cocoa and coffee trees. And among these lush thickets flutter numerous parrots and storks and lurk iguanas and turtles. The shallow coastal waters are also rich in wildlife, with starfish nestled on the sandy seabed adding another dimension to the island paradise.

There are no hotels on Saone Island - the whole territory of the rather large island is a protected nature reserve. So the excursion to its beaches, made by speedboat from the town Bayaribe, allows you to spend time on a really pristine unspoiled nature.
